100% Chickpea, 0% Compromise: Inside Our Highest-Protein Pasta
Share
Most "protein pastas" are wheat pasta with a protein powder dusted on top. Ours isn't.
Chickpea Pasta is the one SKU in our entire range that's genuinely single-ingredient: 100% chickpea flour, shaped into penne. No rice flour blend, no binders, no fine print explaining why the ingredient list is longer than you'd expect. When we say chickpea, we mean the whole pack is chickpea.
The numbers, and where they come from
Lab-tested by Shoolini Lifesciences, an accredited testing facility, our Chickpea Penne comes in at 19.51g protein per 100g — the highest of anything in our lineup — alongside 63.12g carbs, a modest 2.31g sugar, 4.86g fat, and 381.03mg sodium. We publish these numbers because we tested them properly, not because they were convenient to round up. If a brand won't tell you which lab tested their claims, that's usually the first question worth asking.
Why single-ingredient actually matters
It's easy to treat "single-ingredient" as a marketing buzzword, so let's be specific about why it matters in practice. Every additional item on a label is one more thing that can go wrong for someone — a hidden allergen, a digestive trigger, an additive doing a job you didn't ask it to do. Chickpea flour has been a staple in Indian kitchens for generations, in dishes like besan chilla and pakoras. We didn't invent anything here. We just didn't dilute it.
There's also a simpler reason: fewer ingredients means fewer places to hide. You can trust a single-ingredient product the way you trust a bag of rice or a jar of honey — what you see is genuinely what you get.
How it actually eats
Texture-wise, Chickpea Penne is firmer than wheat pasta straight out of the pot, and it holds sauce beautifully — the ridges on our penne shape are doing real work here, catching everything from a simple olive oil dressing to a thick arrabbiata. It's also more forgiving than you'd expect: it doesn't turn mushy if you're two minutes late pulling it off the boil, which we've tested more times than we'd like to admit on genuinely busy weeknights.
Flavour-wise, expect a slightly nutty, earthy note — noticeable but not overpowering. Pair it with a bold sauce, like a garlicky pesto or a spiced arrabbiata, and most people honestly can't tell the difference from wheat pasta on the first bite.
Who this is actually for
If you're building meals around protein — whether that's general wellness, a fitness goal, or just wanting more staying power from a weekday lunch — Chickpea Penne is the SKU to start with. It's also the simplest entry point if you're new to gluten-free pasta altogether, since there's no ratio to think about, no blend to explain. One ingredient, one clear number on the label, one straightforward decision.
Is chickpea pasta actually gluten-free, or just "lower gluten"?
100% chickpea flour, gluten-free by nature — there's no wheat anywhere in the ingredient list to begin with, so this isn't a reduced-gluten claim, it's a complete absence by ingredient choice.
Does it taste like chickpeas?
Slightly nutty, not overpowering. Pair it with a bold sauce — arrabbiata or a garlicky pesto — and most people can't tell the difference from regular pasta once it's dressed.
Is Chickpea Penne suitable for high-protein diets or fitness goals?
At 19.51g protein per 100g, it's our highest-protein SKU and a solid base for a protein-forward meal — though for serious training volumes, it should complement your other protein sources rather than replace them entirely.
